Seacoast Concert For A Cure
Sunday August 28, 2005
Redhook Brewery - Portsmouth NH
1:00pm to 7:00pm

On August 28th, 2005, on the patio at the Redhook Brewery in Portsmouth, over two dozen local and nationally renowned musicians will came to make history in Portsmouth, New Hampshire…not just because of the unprecedented array of talent, but because it is the first time that so many people have come together in support of a cause that affects so many of us personally – breast cancer - and the result was over $21,000 raised in support of the Dana Farber Cancer Institute, and two local charities, On-Belay and www.breastcancerstories.com

Why: To benefit breast cancer research and survivor support
The Seacoast Concert for A Cure is happening because breast cancer has touched so many lives, particularly on the Seacoast of New Hampshire and Maine– where cancer rates are unusually high. Just about everyone knows someone who has been affected by breast cancer. But the good news is that more and more of those "someone's' are surviving, thanks to dramatic advances in research made possible in part because of fundraisers like this one. In the words of Dr. Eric Winer of Dana Farber Cancer Institute to one of his patients, "if it comes back in five years we will have found a cure." That's how close we are.

All of the organizers, staff, artists, and sound engineers are volunteering their skill and time and the Redhook Brewery is donating the performance and celebration space so that the maximum amount of funds can be donated.

Who: Local and Nationally Known Musicians who care
Musicians from all over the Seacoast region and from many genres of the musical spectrum will donate their talents to champion research and support for those who are fighting and who will fight breast cancer. From folk, country and blues, to jazz, swing and rock, the air will be filled with sounds of people helping people and celebrating the many triumphs over this disease.
Recordings by all the performing artists will be available for sale at the concert.

When: Sunday, August 28, 1 p.m. to 7 p.m. (rain or shine)
Musical festivities begin at 1 p.m. and will continue throughout the day with Harvey Reid and Joyce Andersen, Cormac McCarthy, Lex and Joe, MAINESQUEEZE, The Short Brothers (in a rare Seacoast appearance!), Curt Bessette, Mom's Home Cookin' and Sounds of the Seacoast. At 6 p.m. Assembly of Dust will take the stage for a one hour dance jam, a rollicking finale to the day.

Where: Redhook Brewery, Corporate Drive, Portsmouth, NH
The Redhook Brewery will offer their special outdoor concert menu food items for sale, including grilled hot dogs, burgers, veggie burgers as well as beverages and other summertime fare. The Seacoast Concert for a Cure will take place under the covered patio at the Redhook Brewery, making it a rain or shine event

Who we support:
The proceeds from the Seacoast Concert for a Cure will support breast cancer survivor research at the Dana Farber Cancer Institute, and, because there are so many local survivors, support will also be given to two very important area charities, On Belay and BreastCancerStories.com.

On Belay is a program for children ages 10 - 18 years who have or are facing the trials of a parent's, or loved one's diagnosis of cancer or other life-changing illnesses. On Belay supports and challenges participants to reach new heights, while building self-awareness and self-esteem in a supportive, community environment with a day of challenges, high ropes course and team building activities.

BreastCancerStories.com is a free, online web community helping those going through breast cancer to communicate with one another via the internet. Breast cancer patients are provided with their own unique web address where they can write and upload diary entries and photos whenever they feel the need to do so. Friends and family members can visit their website whenever they want, follow their story day-by-day / week-by-week, and better understand what their loved one is going through. New breast cancer patients are able to search through an index of stories, find someone similar to them, and follow their story - helping them to anticipate and understand the journey on which they are about to embark.
